Wednesday Speed Work

After a cross training day yesterday, I ran again today. Leg feels perfect. Still tender to the touch and at one point while running I felt a sharp pain, but I am also aware that I am hyper focused on my shin...there are always weird twinges and pains when running. And for all I know, it has been sensitive to the touch for months on end. I don't normally sit around pressing on my shin. So let's just hope for the best and move forward. If anyone did send me positive running vibes, I love you forever. And if you didn't--that is ok, I still love you.

Today's speed work out was 5 miles with warm up, 4x800s @ 3:57 with 400 jogs, and a cool down. I did 1 1/4 mile warm up. First 800 was 3:32. I of course walked the 400. Second 800 was 3:26. Walked. Third was ? I don't know. Probably around 3:30. And the last one was 3:40.  All four of them were torture. Sheer torture. With every single one I wanted to quit at the quarter mile point. But somehow convinced myself to continue. With every single one I told myself that I was just going to call it for the day and screw the rest of the work out. But funny thing is, that with those 400 walks, by the end of the walk, I was ready to go again. I did a mile cool down at a comfortable 10:40 pace. And for the first time ever my calf muscle CRAMPED on me. I never had that happen before.

Tomorrow should be a 3 mile easy run...as long as no aching starts tonight...I will be good to go.

Still scared of the Mother's Day 5k. Russ asked me what the worst possible outcome could be. I thought about it and said it would be going out way, way, way too fast and hitting a wall of sorts and not being able to finish without walking or slowing down to a very slow jog. Which made me realize--well, who cares if that happens?
